The Current Occurrence of a Recurring Curriculum

Sometimes word families just keep on growing. A seemingly simple word study to find the connection between a school <curriculum> and a river’s <current> resulted in a week long investigation that revealed an extended family of words that gained currency in English over the course of 700 years.

Sean Andrews used a host of resource materials to compile his word web (see below). He then traced each stem back through time to build the etymological chart (scroll down further).

“I met Sean when he was in 4th Grade at ISKL in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2002. Sean is dyslexic and was having difficulty writing and reading. We worked together to help him make sense of the world of print.

Sean compiled this analysis over a week in April 2005 when he came to Geneva for a holiday with his mom. Sean now manages his own learning and does so most successfully. Sean is now now lives in Massachusetts, USA.”
