May 2006:

During an investigation into the spelling of <health> and the various phonemes that can be represented by the digraph <ea>, Allegra Yardeny built the word net on the right.

Allegra had been working with Real Spelling for some time and had reached the stage where she was able to make connections on her own and apply her own form of analysis.

This investigation took place in a single session with the dictionary. Allegra loves to use dictionaries to find the evidence for her investigations and she is not at all daunted by the size of some of them.

Out of this session Allegra revisited compound words, revised her understanding of suffixes and discovered an Old English suffix that she had not previously met: <th>.

Further investigation revealed a number of words that use this suffix. Our list is included on the left. We discovered that all these words are nouns.
